After School Care Program
Pre-Kindergarten & ES

September 2019 Topic: Autumn

This month, we will be discussing the weather, the seasons, and why the leaves on the tree turn brown. We will not only be making autumn-related crafts taking advantage of many beautiful leaves, chestnuts, and acorns, but we will also sing autumn-related songs and read autumn-related books. The snail pace race game and other games matching our topic of this month will complement the program.

October 2019 Topic: Monsters

In preparation of Halloween, we will craft all kinds of monsters this month, for example a witch, a ghost, and many more. We will learn about the tradition of Halloween and talk about costumes and common fears. Our songs, games, and books will all support this theme for the children to get fully immersed in this fun time.

November 2019 Topic: Sharing and Gratitude

We celebrate two big events at the school this month: St. Martin Lantern Feast and Thanksgiving. Both of these festivities teach us about sharing and gratitude. Therefore, we will highlight these two aspects in our crafts, books, songs, and games. Miniature lanterns, turkeys, and wreaths are some of the crafts we will be making.

December 2019 Topic: Winter

The cold season has begun and it is going to be a lot of fun to craft snowflakes, snowmen, icicles, and other winter-related items. Hopefully, we will have some real snow to experiment with, but we will surely have plenty of songs, books, and games to go along with this topic.

January 2020:

With the beginning of the New Year we will take the opportunity to look at other New Year festivities and the associated cultures. In detail, we will discuss the Chinese New Year, the Indian light festival Diwali, and the Arab Hijri New Year.

February 2020:

We will again compare different traditions: This time those of Carnival. In this regard, we will find out how the German Carnival is different from the one in Italy and the one in Brazil. Colorful crafts will reflect the different traditions.

March 2020:

We will celebrate the beginning of March with all its beauties by crafting flowers, birds, butterflies, ladybugs, and much more pertaining to this theme. We will go for walks on the school grounds and look for signs of spring and discuss them.

April 2020:

In the beginning of the month we will briefly tackle the topic of Easter and make fun Easter crafts. After the break, we will then start talking about the new topic of recycling, with the celebration of Earth Day as our inspiration. We will talk about which materials should be recycled and why.

May 2020:

We are looking forward to a month evolving around the family. Beginning with Mother’s Day, we will craft something special for every member of the family this month.

June 2020:

With summer approaching we will make beautiful summer crafts and talk about the topic of sun protection. Why should we and how can we protect ourselves from the sun?
