Activities in the Library

The new year has started with a fresh breeze in our school library! January kept us busy bringing in many exciting additions to our shelves and sharing reading moments with our students.

We’ve expanded our collection with new Abi-Literatur for several subjects, as well as special syllable books (‘Silbenmethode’) for Grades 1–3 that support early reading development. Our English section has grown, too – the popular “Treehouse” series has arrived and is already drawing a lot of interest! For our older students, we’ve added new “Teen Survival Guides” and a range of German advice books focusing on political and social topics.

We’re also very grateful to have received a private donation of new books – a heartfelt thank-you to our generous donor! Among the new arrivals are the 2025 winners of the Kinder- und Jugendliteraturpreis and an expanded selection of very popular non-fiction titles to explore.

3 Apples Book Award Nominees
Library Review - 3 Apples award nominees

This month, our English classes from Grades 1–4 visited the library for their 3 Apples Book Award discussion sessions. Together, we looked at the nominated titles, exchanged reading impressions, and collected student reviews on the books they liked—or didn’t! It’s wonderful to see such lively reading engagement at the start of the year.

Introduction to Antolin for Grade 2

Our 2nd graders were offered a short Antolin introduction. Students learned where to find Antolin-labelled books in the library and how to complete the online quizzes. Antolin now includes over 140,000 titles, and most of our picture books as well as Grade 1–4 fiction and non-fiction books are listed there. For questions about student accounts, please contact the classroom teacher.

Book Displays

We also focused on several library displays in January, highlighting meaningful topics and seasonal themes:

  • Holocaust Remembrance, encouraging reflection and awareness
  • “Let It Snow, a cozy winter theme for our younger readers
  • 3 Apples Award Nominees, connecting to our class visits and reading discussions

Our “Themenwelt” this month centered around Menschen auf der Flucht – exploring stories, experiences, and nonfiction about people on the move and seeking refuge.
