Emergency Drills

Keeping your children safe at school is one of our top priorities. Regular emergency drills, like fire and lockdown drills, form an important part of the measures taken at GISNY to ensure that everyone in our school community knows immediately how to react in case of a fire or other threat. The State of New York has mandated that we perform at least 12 emergency drills per school year: eight fire and four lockdown drills. As a school, we must also inform you before a drill. Next week, we will start with a fire drill on Wednesday and a lockdown drill on Friday. Naturally, we will take great care to explain the reason for the drills and the procedures in an age-appropriate manner.

In the future, we will announce drills in the Newsletter one week before, but we will no longer share the exact days.

If you try to enter the school during one of the drills, you will find a sign at the main entrance stating that a drill is in progress. Please note that we will not answer the door during this time.
