7th Graders Win 2nd Place in Ben Ferencz Contest

Congratulations to Paula Kaufholz Arevalo, Madeleine Dienes, Georg Skudlarek, and Katharina Zemke of Grade 7, who earned Second Place in the annual Ben Ferencz Creative Expression Competition organized by the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center (HHREC).

The students participated in an HHREC training program last November and later submitted their project, "Books: A New Life," to the competition's Creative Expression category. Created in art class with Mrs. Miriam Kennedy, the project transformed old books and newspapers into sculptures inspired by nature.

In their artist statement, the students explained how recycling can help protect our environment and support the right of all people to live in a clean and healthy world.

The judges praised the project's creative use of recycled materials and the teamwork involved in its creation, describing it as a strong example of the values promoted by the competition.

The students will receive certificates from HHREC as well as a shared prize.
