Email Ms. Tabb
My name is Karlyn Tabb, and I have been a part of the GISNY community since 2004. I began as a part-time Lower School English teacher, gradually adding teaching hours to become full-time. I have taught grades Eingangsstufe - 4.
As of the end of February 2022, I took on the role of Acting Head of Lower School, and continue to teach English in first grade. I am the head of the Lower School English Department, was active in STAC (Staff Teacher Advisory Council) for many years, have organized book fairs and author visits, and have substituted in the Language School.
I grew up in New City, New York (Rockland County), received my B.A. in German from SUNY Binghamton (now Binghamton University), spent my junior year abroad at the University of Graz, Austria, worked as a teaching assistant in Innsbruck for a year, and earned my M.A. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Hunter College in New York City.
My interest in German culture stems from my paternal grandmother, who was born in Germany and emigrated to New York as a young woman. I began German classes in high school, continued my studies in college, and worked for a number of German companies before deciding on a career in teaching. The German International School
New York has proven to be a wonderful place for me to work in an international environment in White Plains, where I live with my husband and two children.
