Karlyn Tabb
My name is Karlyn Tabb, and I have been part of the GISNY community since 2004. I began as a part-time English teacher in the Lower School.
Currently, I teach English in first to third grade, am Head of the Lower School English Department, and am Deputy Head of Lower School. In the past, I served as the head of STAC (Staff Teacher Advisory Council), organized the annual book fair, and was a substitute teacher in the Language School.
I grew up in New City, New York (Rockland County), received my B.A. in German Studies from SUNY Binghamton (now Binghamton University), spent my junior year abroad at the University of Graz, Austria, worked for a year as a teaching assistant in Innsbruck, and earned my M.A. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Hunter College in New York City.
My interest in German culture stemmed from my paternal grandmother, who was born in Germany and immigrated to New York as a young woman. I started taking German classes in high school and continued with my studies in college. Before I decided to become a teacher, I worked for a number of German companies.
For me, the German International School New York is a wonderful and rewarding place to work in an international environment.
