Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the main governing body of the German International School New York, as mandated by the guidelines for German Schools Abroad.
The Board consists of 15 Trustee members of the Corporation who are elected for 3-year terms at the annual meeting of the German International School New York Corporation each November. Membership in the Corporation requires Board approval. All GISNY parents are offered membership at the time of enrollment.
GISNY Trustees are volunteers who provide service for the benefit of the school. Trustee service takes the form of time, expertise and financial contributions. Beyond supporting and shaping the overall strategy of GISNY, Trustees engage in ongoing and project-specific service in and outside of specific committees to further strengthen our school academically, financially and socially.
The Board adheres to the Handbook for German Schools Abroad and the by-laws of the Corporation. Its members are responsible for the facility, personnel, and finances of the school and work closely with the school head and administration. The Board of Trustees comes together every six to eight weeks and invites the Head of School, Assistant Head, Head of Lower School and Administrator as well as a representative from the German Consulate in New York, and one faculty and one parent representative to these bimonthly meetings.
