With the help of our very active school community, the Parents’ Association is able to offer various events, activities & services for new and long-term GISNY families.
The list below shows our main groups, if necessary, additional committees may be formed to address specific topics. Reports of their activities can be found in the meeting minutes of the Parents’ Association.
If you have questions about any specific group or are interested in joining / participating, please feel free to use email@example.com or the group’s own email address to contact us!
Support for the Martin de Porres School, Queens.
This project is one of the charity projects of our school - we collect clothes, shoes or bring Christmas gifts. The PA also supports the school with an annual donation of around $2000. Our Middle School students regularly meet students of this school. More projects are planned.
This group is maintaining and supervising our online community portal “The Classifieds”. This service offers all people connected with the school the opportunity to sell & buy gently used items. The portal also offers the possibility to look for tutors & babysitters, houses, jobs and vehicles. Because most things in life are more fun if done in a group, the Classifieds allows looking for same-interest groups within the school community or to exchange tips and experiences about doctors, shopping and much more. And best of all, it is totally free! We have open spots! Contact us through: firstname.lastname@example.org
Holiday Bazaar Team
Each year, our traditional Holiday Bazaar is organized by this parents’ committee. With the help of many volunteers a very festive atmosphere is created on the first Saturday in December. The event usually features concerts, a holiday play by the 3rd graders, traditional German and Swiss Xmas market food and drinks, cakes, cookies and many activities and products offered by the classes.
After its debut in the 2017 / 18 school year, the GISNY Fundraising Gala turned out to be an instant favorite with the school community. Taking place in the elegant surroundings of a beach club idyllically situated by the sound, parents, family, friends & companies associated or interested in the school are invited to enjoy an evening of fine-dining, meeting friends, dancing and of course, bidding on a wonderful selection of prizes. The team is responsible for the organization and marketing of the event and the procurement of the prizes. The funds are used for the improvement of the school and / or offered programs. The team can be reached through: email@example.com. We welcome donations!
To offer the husbands a chance to meet in a pleasant atmosphere, this group arranges an evening out on the first Friday of each month at different restaurants in the surrounding towns and cities. Please use firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the email list.
Newcomers' Club: English | German
At the beginning of each new school-year the GISNY Newcomers’ Club welcomes all new families and teachers with various events: a Welcome Cafe, a wine&cheese get-together and breakfasts. The purpose of these events is to offer a platform to make new contacts, exchange information and to facilitate the settling in. By organizing monthly trips to New York City and the vicinity, the team also offers an additional possibility to get to know the country and its people. The Newcomers’ Club is a great place to make new friends as it is open to all families of the GISNY, which means that long-term families are of course highly welcome to all events and activities.
After a pause in the last school year due to the construction project, the legendary Parents’ Party will be back in the current school year, probably in the second term. We are still looking for a small group of interested parents to organize this fun event giving parents the possibility to party with all of their friends at the same time! For inquiries use Elternbeirat@gisny.org!
Tag Sale Team
The Tag Sale takes place twice a year (May / November) to allow families to clear their basements before a new season, a move or to buy German books, toys, games, clothes, etc. Cakes and Sandwiches will be provided. The team is looking for help to set up at the event.
