Gala 2021 Update!

GISNY Gala 2021: THANK YOU for a fantastic result!

Roughly 170 people, in 90 Zoom windows, gathered in the comfort of their own homes on Saturday, May 1st to attend the Online GISNY Gala 2021, sipping Champagne out of their GISNY glasses and nibbling on a delicious cheese spread, prepared by GISNY Chef Paul Boos.

Upon entering, our guests were greeted with music from the faculty band (“Maputo” by Marcus Miller) and welcomed by Head of school Lars Hierath. Our adorable student choir “The Twinkling Stars” kicked off the evening’s entertainment. Our distinct guest speaker,  Dr. Joachim Frank,  shared his journey to becoming a Nobel Prize winning scientist and praised our plan to create a Makerspace, which will allow students to “tinker” in their own time, in a place full of possibilities. The Science Wing Project movie, created by Silvia Bader and Marion Rumpf-Steppat, featured faculty members Oliver Frühwein, Klaus Himmelstein, Corinna Guerriere and Nadine Morgan and several of our students from Pre-K to 11th grade. If you would like to see it (again), the movie can be viewed on the Science Wing Project page. The faculty band performed two more pieces, “Summertime” by George Gershwin and “I need a Dollar” by Aloe Blacc to get the guests into the right mood for the fundraising part of the evening.

The silent auction, the live auction, the jewelry raffle draw, and an amazing Paddle Raise brought our gala's fundraising total to a fantastic $77,203!  After a few words of thanks to our generous sponsors & donors, the Gala Teams of 2020 & 2021 and all other helpers, DJ SILLVER’s outstanding tunes brought our guests off the sofa and on their feet to “bust a move” until midnight.

The Gala Team would like to extend their gratitude to the amazing GISNY community for making this first, and hopefully last, virtual fundraising Gala a huge success:

Thank you to our bidders and raffle ticket purchasers. Congratulations on winning your prizes!

Thank you to the generous participants in the Paddle Raise.

Thank you to our sponsors and donors, without whom the Online Gala would not have happened.

As it would be wonderful to round up the amount to $80,000, we would like to ask all donors to check with their employers if they have a matching donor program. Please contact Ed Schlieben for any necessary documents, i.e. proof of the school’s 501-c3 status. Needless to say, we will continue to accept donations, including stocks. Check out the Giving page on our homepage for details.

We have been blown away by your generosity and support. It is truly incredible what our community can accomplish together.

With heartfelt thanks,

The 2021 Gala Team
